Injured deputy recovering

By CHRISTIN COYNE

A Parker County deputy seriously injured when her patrol vehicle struck the back of another vehicle has undergone surgery and is reported to be recovering.

Parker County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Danie Huffman said Sgt. Kimberly Cooper, who sustained a broken leg in a crash Sunday night, had surgery Monday.

“She came out completely fine,” Huffman said. “She’s in very good spirits and she’s recovering.”

A southbound Ford tow truck, driven by 30-year-old Jason Almquist, was attempting to make a left turn from Farm-to-Market Road 51 to Greenbranch Road north of Weatherford around 8:30 p.m. Sunday when a southbound Parker County Sheriff’s Office Chevrolet Tahoe driven by 40-year-old Cooper slammed into the back of the tow truck, according to DPS Senior Trooper Gary Rozzell.

Cooper was pinned in her vehicle until emergency responders freed her and transported her by helicopter to Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth for her injuries.

Almquist was taken to Weatherford Regional Medical Center for a minor injury, according to DPS.
