Community to celebrate King’s life, legacy

The annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration is 5:30-7 p.m. Monday at the Weatherford ISD Ninth Grade Center, 1007 S. Main St.

The event is sponsored by the Weatherford/Parker County NAACP Branch (6321). Guest speaker is Rowena Green Winfrey, president of the NAACP branch in Corsicana.

A Community Service award will be presented in addition to the essay and artistic awards to Parker County students who entered and won their categories.

The event is free and the public is invited to attend.

Holiday

Monday is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a national, state and local holiday.

All schools, banks and post offices will be closed along with federal, state, county and city offices.

In Weatherford, sanitation and recycling services will run as normally scheduled.

The offices of the Weatherford Democrat will be open Monday.
