MILLSAP MATTERS: Local fundraising, socializing on Millsap calendars

Political candidates are invited to come and visit with voters as there is presently not a local candidate speaking scheduled for our community. For just $7 you can enjoy delicious spaghetti and kids 5 years and under eat free. Come and help these women build funds for their Millsap Senior Scholarship, Christmas bags for shut-ins and other community needs.

January is School Board Appreciation Month and Millsap ISD has a wonderful board of dedicated people who serve in the best interests of our students. This board volunteers countless hours each year to take mandatory training and participate in decision making. Board members are President Dene Herbel, Vice President Mike Stack, Secretary Jerry Walker, Paul Evans, Christy Burton, Alan Richardson and Tommy Lucia. The district is fortunate to have these dedicated individuals and we are very appreciative of all of their efforts.

As we continue to spend a lot of time indoors due to the cold weather, remember that there are many materials available to read, watch or listen to through joining the Parker County Library Association. This is a free service with the following participant libraries: Millsap, Weatherford, Boyce Ditto (Mineral Wells), Azle, East Parker County and Springtown. If you have a card from any of these libraries you can check out materials from any of the other libraries.

By working together, the libraries offer patrons access to more than 175,000 items. There are online catalogs and resources, plus search assistance, Internet access and educational programs. There is a courier service that brings and picks up materials at the libraries on Wednesdays. The access to items and services is almost endless, so drop by one of these libraries, get a free card and start enjoying all that is available.

The Millsap Heritage Society is always busy preserving the area and edifying the residents. At its January meeting many plans were discussed for the year. The Fourth Annual Log Cabin Days Festival has been scheduled for May 10, with May 9 being set aside as an onsite educational day for Millsap and Garner 4th graders.

The membership drive is going on, and it is $10 for an individual or $15 for a family.
