Humane Society seizes more puppies tied to Garner mill

By JUDY SHERIDAN

The dirty parasite-ridden dogs discovered missing from a horrific “puppy mill” on 511 Hide Away Lane in the Garner area two weeks ago — about 50 animals — were recovered Monday from a similar but larger breeding facility in Young County.

“The Parker County Sheriff’s Office got a tip from a breeder in Parker County,” Tammy Roberts, of the Humane Society of North Texas, said, “and the Young County Sheriff’s Office confirmed there was a person in the county that matched the description and location.”

Estimated at 100 or more by the Parker County sheriff’s deputy who found them, the dogs numbered just 26 when law enforcement and Humane Society officials returned to seize them from owners Roger and Tina Williams.

About 14 were later located in a kennel Roberts described as “well-kept,” but the whereabouts of most remained a mystery.

Roberts said the Young County Sheriff’s Office approached the breeder with a case file on the missing Parker County dogs — which included schnauzers, German and Australian shepherds, Chihuahuas and poodles — and he agreed to release them.

She said they had been fed, but veterinary exams revealed abscesses, tumors and other ill health conditions.

Parker County Justice of the Peace Kelly Green awarded custody of the 33 animals seized from the Williams’ initially to the Humane Society after a property hearing where he also assessed a $4,680 judgment against the couple, who did not appear.

A 10-day appeal period following the case ends at 5 p.m. today, Roberts said, and if no appeal is filed, those animals will go up for adoption this weekend — probably at a discount.

Roberts said the veterinary exams of the dogs will be submitted to the Parker County Sheriff’s Office as soon as she finishes entering the data,

No criminal charges have been filed at this time.
