LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Don't bail out ObamaCare

Don’t bailout ObamaCare

Dear Editor,

The Obama Administration will stop at nothing to save ObamaCare.

The administration is promising new subsidies to cover the losses private insurance companies are facing, the same companies that lobbied for ObamaCare.

ObamaCare is falling apart at the seams and taxpayers shouldn’t be on the hook for a costly bailout.

Stopping the ObamaCare bailout could stop ObamaCare permanently. Republicans should do everything they can to stop ObamaCare. They must support S. 1726 and H.R. 3541, The ObamaCare Taxpayer Bailout Prevention Act.

Sincerely,

Wayne Gentry, Cleburne

Teacher’s comment doesn’t add up

Dear Editor,

All this skirmishing over teaching algebra in public schools is beginning to sound rather silly. In the letters to the editor in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram on Wednesday from a 70-something-year-old math teacher claimed he never uses Algebra in every day life. I don’t believe him. Not teaching Algebra is so very wrong that it’s unbelievable.

Of course people use Algebra in their every day lives. Just the simple calculating of how long it will take you go drive to a dinner party or to the grocery store requires the use of algebra.

The use of algebra also comes into play when you’re trying to figure out how much money you can spend buying things for that dinner party. When you start dealing with all the variables involved you are using algebra. Just about all the basic math skills are used every day by the average person. You do it without thinking about it or realizing what kind of math you’re using.

I have an idea. Why not just dumb down school to the point where we teach students how to text at a higher rate so every one can keep up with their friends latest movements.
