WILLOW PARK – Willow Park Tuesday night appointed an interim city secretary to replace Yael Hoffman, who recently submitted her letter of resignation.

Hoffman, who has served as city secretary since 2008, is moving out of the country with her husband and her last day was expected to be Thursday.

“We appreciate the many years of service that you’ve given us,” councilmember Gene Martin said.

Hoffman teared up as the Willow Park City Council accepted her resignation and thanked city staff and others for their patience and support.

“I know that in the past six and-a-half years you have tried to teach me to speak Texan but it’s not going to work,” Hoffman said. “I couldn’t find it in me but yet I’ve found a lot of friends and y’all have been my second family.”

The council appointed Candy Scott, the city’s budget and financial analyst, as interim city secretary, though she is expected to delegate many of the tasks.

Scott told the council that she did not want job permanently.

Doing both the city finances, as well as city secretary duties, is a lot of work for one person, Scott said.

“I did tell Matt [Shaffstall, city administrator] that I would help get [the city] through the election because I have election experience,” Scott told the council.

City council also requested city administration identify city secretary candidates for approval by the city council and were expected to discuss the job description during executive session.
