Filipino children helped by local church

By BRIAN SMITH

One Weatherford church is working to make things a little better for some Filipino children.

Central Christian Church has been working with a small Catholic church in Noga City, about 100 miles south of Manila, for the last five years. John Patty, a CCC congregation member who got the ball rolling with the ministry abroad, estimates the church has helped feed about 31,000 children over the last five years.

Patty said the assistance began when he was talking to his cousin’s wife, who had a cousin who was a doctor in Mississippi. The doctor’s wife, Marion Imperial, who is living in the Phillippines, spoke to her husband about some of the hardships children at the church where she worked were having.

Word got back to Patty, who approached his pastor, Danny Couch, to see what they could do to help the kids. The pair worked up a plan where private donations could be received at the church and sent to the doctor in Mississippi, who would then wire the money to his wife in Noga City.

The response has been tremendous, with more than $1,000 a month being sent abroad. Patty said some shirts with Central Christian Church emblazoned on them have also been sent along with the funds.

“Every cent that we collect we ensure is going over to help those kids,” Patty said. “To be able to feed 31,000 kids around the world really isn’t a bad deal.”

Anyone wishing to donate or find out more about the program can contact Patty at 817-597-6912 or Couch at 817-613-0228.
