‘Angry woman’ accused of burning ex’s home

By CHRISTIN COYNE

The Parker County Fire Marshal’s office jailed a woman on an arson charge after, authorities say, she set a fire Thursday night that destroyed a Parker County man’s home while he was away celebrating the holiday.

Amanda Nicole Clary, 26, of Azle, was arrested early Friday morning and released later that morning on $20,000 bond.

Jim Walsh, the homeowner, said he was in Fort Worth watching fireworks when his neighbors began calling his phone around 10:30 p.m. about the fire.

“It was venting through the roof prior to us getting on scene,” ESD No. 1 Chief Eric Vinson said of the fire located in the 2400 block of Bettis Drive.

Firefighters from Silver Creek, Aledo, La Junta, Briar and Azle departments responded and were able to extinguish the fire fairly easily, Vinson said.

However the fire gutted the single-story, three-bedroom brick home, causing a total loss.

Walsh, who did have insurance on the home, said he shared the house with his two children.

She started the fire on the back porch, according to Walsh, who described Clary as “an angry woman” and a “short-term” ex.

The house fire call came during a particularly busy night for emergency responders as firefighters across the county were hit shortly after dark with a barrage of grass fire and structure fire calls that continued into the early morning hours.
