MILLSAP MATTERS: Millsap Neighborhood Ladies Home and Garden Club meets

By SHARRON HUDSON

MILLSAP – With the first day of winter officially being Dec. 21, everyone is taking advantage of those days when they can be out and about participating in Christmas activities.

The women of the Millsap Neighborhood Ladies Home and Garden Club recently met between bad weather days to enjoy a wonderful party.

Gathering at the Millsap Community Center the ladies were entertained with a play performed by seventh- and eighth-grade students from the Garner School Drama Department. The play “Indian Captive” is the true story of the captivity of a pioneer girl.

This was the students’ UIL performance piece and they had received two all stars and two honorable mentions, plus an award for lighting at the competition. The performance was very authentic and enjoyable and the young people were a delight.

The club members then traveled to Millsap United Methodist Church for a lunch of sandwiches, fruits, cheeses and many desserts. To wrap up the day the women held an auction with some of the hot items being an oil painting and handcrafted jewelry. This was a fun time for these ladies who do many charitable acts for our area. Glad they had a great party!

Besides doing their regular school work, students at Millsap Elementary have been busy preparing for Christmas. Students in grades three through five performed a Christmas spoof of “American Idol,” while students in kindergarten through second grade have been diligently working on a “Moosical” program. Also, the PTO has sponsored the annual Christmas store, which is a service project, so the boys and girls can do their own shopping.

There has been much preparation on floats and costuming as students were slated to participate in our Community Christmas Parade. On Dec. 20, the fall awards assembly will be held as a wrap up before dismissing for the holidays. All students will have early release on Dec. 19 and Dec. 20, and the Christmas break is Dec. 23-Jan. 3. To all of Millsap School District, have a great vacation!
