Woman in knife assault gets probation

A woman accused of attacking another woman with a knife a year ago last week received 10 years probation in a plea deal.

Laura Anne Cloy, 28, received 10 years deferred adjudication on a charge of aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury.

Deferred adjudication means the court is withholding a verdict while the probationary terms are served. If completed successfully, a defendant can have the case dismissed. However, failure to complete the probationary terms can lead to a finding of guilty and punishment within the range allowed by law for the offense.

According to information previously provided by the Parker County Sheriff’s Office, a 42-year-old woman was repeatedly stabbed or cut with a knife March 6 in the 100 block of Horseshoe Drive in Western Lake Estates during an argument with Cloy.

The injured woman was reportedly bleeding heavily from cuts to both forearms.

She was transported by witnesses in a personal vehicle to Weatherford Regional Medical Center before being flown by helicopter to John Peter Smith hospital.

Cloy reportedly left the scene and was later arrested. She was originally charged with attempted murder but was indicted on the lesser second-degree felony assault charge.

The conditions of probation specified in court records state that Cloy is not allowed to carry weapons, including a knife, on her person.

Other conditions include required drug testing, evaluation by MHMR and follow up with any proscribed treatment and no contact with the victim, any member of the Aryan Brotherhood or Aryan Circle or anyone on probation or parole.
