Casting call

TOTS seeks actors for fall production of ‘Bad Seed’

Theater Off The Square is announcing a casting call for its upcoming production of the play “Bad Seed.”

The play is written by Maxwell Anderson, from William March’s novel. It is produced by Special Arrangement with Dramatists Play Service, directed by Wally Jones.

The scene is a small Southern town where Colonel and Christine Penmark live with their daughter, Rhoda. On the surface, Rhoda is sweet, charming, full of old-fashioned graces, loved by her parents and admired by all of her elders. But Rhoda’s mother has an uneasy feeling about her. When one of Rhoda’s schoolmates is mysteriously drowned at a picnic, Mrs. Penmark is alarmed, for the boy who drowned was the one who had won the penmanship medal that Rhoda felt she deserved. This is a thriller.

The cast of characters needed are one female, 8-12 years in age; a female in her 20s; a female in hers 20s or 30s; two females in their 40s or 50s; a male in his 30s; and four males in their 40s to 60s.

The audition dates are Aug. 5-6 at 6 p.m. in the theater’s green room. Call backs, if needed, is Aug. 7 at 6 p.m.

Rehearsals begin Sept. 9 and show dates are Oct. 18-20, Oct. 25-27 and Nov. 1-3.
