Working with the family

By BRIAN SMITH

Medicine is an art form in and of itself. To be both an artist and a urologist combines the best of both worlds.

Dr. Avi Desmukh (des-muck) of North Central Texas Urology in Weatherford says he’s ben painting for a number of years, starting off as a pencil drawing artist while he was a medical student to better understand what he was trying to learn. He moved on to paintings later in his career.

As time has gone on, Desmukh has become a professional artist and says medicine is an art all its own.

“I place my abilities as an artist to my medical practice which is only a plus to all my patients,” Desmukh said.

Desmukh spent eight years in the Air Force as a surgeon and flight surgeon before opening his practices, which extends from Granbury to Glen Rose, Stephenville and Mineral Wells. He said he opened a location here at 831 E. Eureka Drive about five months but has been in town about a year with his affiliation with Weatherford Regional Medical Center.

He said the relationship with the hospital and community has been nothing short of fabulous.

“The hospital and staff have been supportive of me,” Desmukh said. “The personnel here in Weatherford are as good as in the big cities and people here can take comfort in knowing there are local specialists who can take care of them.”

Desmukh said he likes to spend time with his patients and provide an educational approach to their problems. He says he provides a “high quality” of care while also doing surgery for the prostate, kidney and urologic issues for adults as well as children.

Desmukh said a common misconception is urology is just for men but it is also for women and children as well. Prostate problems in men and incontinence problems in both sexes can be treated by getting an early diagnosis of problems.
