Hunting for Funding event to benefit senior center

By BRIAN SMITH

Parker County seniors will be getting a boost this week with a fundraiser barbecue to benefit the Parker County Senior Center.

A barbecue and silent auction entitled “Hunting for Funding,” sponsored by Jerry’s GM, is scheduled from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, at the Parker County Sheriff’s Posse Building on Mineral Wells Highway.

Proceeds will go toward the center, which offers many programs and activities for seniors, including Meals on Wheels, daily meals at the center, exercise programs and others. The center offers a number of programs including a food pantry, transportation and regular health screenings.

Development officer for the Parker County Committee on Aging Kristen Lilley said several silent auction items have been donated from LaQuinta Hotel, Omni Hotel, Reata Restaurant, Lake Weatherford Marina, Rustic Round Up, Bethany Home Health, Santa Fe Terra, Blessings Candles, Zinnias 2 Zebras, Reggie’s Hen House, Texas Butane, the Pizza Place and more. More are definitely needed and are being accepted by calling 596-4640, ext. 122.

In keeping with this year’s hunting theme, raffle tickets are also being auctioned off for a 12-gauge shotgun, Lilley stated. Raffle tickets are $10 and must be purchased by having tickets at the event. The winner must be present to win, Lilley said.

Entertainment for the event will be provided by Jake Hooker & The Outsiders, who are being sponsored by Plains Capital Bank. Lilley said the band has quite a following locally with their “retro country” style.

Tickets for the event, which are $30, have been selling slow, which Lilley attributes to the recent rash of bad weather. Tickets and table sponsorships for the event are available. Both can be received by going to the Parker County Senior Center, 1225 Holland Lake Dr., between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
