Man charged with home invasion

By CHRISTIN COYNE

DENNIS – A man has been charged in connection with a home invasion last week after, authorities say, he wrecked the vehicle he was driving, entered a stranger’s home and demanded the woman’s keys.

Colt Ashley Malone, 30, was arrested and charged with burglary of a habitation, reckless driving and possession of less than 2 ounces of marijuana.

According to probable cause affidavits released by the sheriff’s office Monday, DPS was dispatched April 1 to a call reporting a reckless driver of a red Jeep Cherokee traveling on Interstate 20 and then south on Dennis Road.

The trooper traveled down Dennis Road and then Farm-to-Market Road 1189 when a man waved him down and reported that a red Jeep Cherokee had taken out his neighbor’s mailbox and a county sign.

Further south, the trooper reportedly found the vehicle and, while he was searching for the driver, a woman came out of her house crying and told him a man had come inside her residence yelling for her keys.

The woman reportedly told a sheriff’s office deputy, who had been dispatched to the 200 block of Pearson Road around 5:30 p.m., that she was in the kitchen washing dishes when she heard her unlocked front door open.

A man she had never seen before walked into the kitchen, held up his hand and demanded her car keys, according to the probable cause affidavit.

The woman reported that her three children were in the house playing and she became scared and told him she didn’t know where her keys were.

He then took a bag of candy and fled, according to the sheriff’s office.

Malone, matching a description of the suspect provided by the woman, was located in the 11000 block of FM 1189 and identified as the man, according to the probable cause affidavit.
