Free volunteer training classes set to begin on Medicare, other health benefits issues

A free training series starting Oct. 4 in Weatherford will offer in-depth information to consumers interested in helping others with Medicare and other public and private health benefits.

Sessions will be held Oct. 4, 11, 18, and 25 from 9:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the community room of Community National Bank and Trust of Texas, 1901 Wall St., in Weatherford. Classes cover different topics each week.

The classes are designed for individuals interested in becoming volunteer benefits counselors for the North Central Texas Area Agency on Aging. Licensed social workers can receive CEUs for attending.

Topics will include Medicare benefits and options, veterans’ benefits, Social Security, disability benefits, long term care, fraud, nursing home Medicaid, Medicare Savings Programs, food assistance, and legal issues.

The North Central Texas Area Agency on Aging, a program of the North Central Texas Council of Governments, is a regional organization that provides benefits counseling and other health support services to residents of 14 counties in the North Central Texas area.
