LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: EPCCC supports Proposition 6

EPCCC supports Proposition 6

Dear Editor,

More than 50 years ago, leaders in North Texas had the foresight and commitment to invest in water infrastructure that laid the foundation for the growth and economic prosperity we enjoy today. Unless the State of Texas fully implements its State Water Plan by 2060, 50 percent of Texans will lack an adequate supply of water during times of drought.

Water shortages during drought conditions cost Texas business and workers billions in lost income every year and the losses will grow to $116 billion annually by 2060 without implementation of the State Water Plan.

Following the successful passage of Senate Joint Resolution (SJR) 1 during the 83rd Texas Legislative Session, the East Parker County Chamber of Commerce wishes to recognize the leadership of the members of the North Texas delegation that rightly supported this constitutional amendment. This constitutional amendment creates a water infrastructure bank that uses $2 billion from the Rainy Day Fund to finance water projects around the state.

The East Parker County Chamber of Commerce urgently encourages our members and their employees to actively support Proposition 6 and vote in favor of the proposition on Nov. 5.

Sincerely,

Debra T. Minco, chairman, East Parker County Chamber of Commerce

Lisa L. Flowers, president, East Parker County Chamber of Commerce

Support tourism growth in the city

Dear Editor,

Our city council had to make some tough decisions about the budget for this year because there simply was not enough money to go around. Where can we get more money?

At Tuesday night’s city council meeting, Mayor Hooks had the right idea when he suggested we put more attention and dollars toward encouraging more tourism in Weatherford.

We each will have a chance to have our vote counted at the next town hall meeting on Oct. 28 at 6 p.m. at the Cotten-Bratton building on the square. This is the time to have your voice heard about how we can develop our city as an attraction for people to come to.

Let’s say “yes” to the opportunities that are facing us! Give your support!

Kathleen Wildwood, Weatherford
