Vehicle strikes ambulance while transporting patient

By CHRISTIN COYNE

WILLOW PARK – A LifeCare ambulance carrying a patient was involved in a wreck Wednesday afternoon in Willow Park.

The ambulance was southbound on Ranch House Road near Lariat Court when a northbound sedan driven by a woman veered left of the center of the roadway, striking the side of the ambulance, according to Willow Park Police Chief Brad Johnson.

The vehicle hit the box portion of the ambulance and spun around, according to Johnson. The driver of the car had minor injuries but refused transport to the hospital and her vehicle was towed from the scene, according to police.

The ambulance was transporting a female patient to a hospital in Fort Worth when the wreck occurred. Another ambulance was dispatched and continued transporting the woman to the hospital, according to officials.

The paramedic treating the patient in the back of the ambulance was thrown into a hard surface and was taken to Weatherford Regional Medical Center, where he was treated and released, according to Parker County Hospital District CEO Randall Young said. The paramedic driving the ambulance was wearing his seat belt and was not reported injured.

The ambulance driver saw the car veer into his lane and moved over a little bit, so the two didn’t collide head-on, according to Young, who said the damage to the ambulance was minor.

“It’s a really great ending to what could have been a pretty serious deal,” Young said.
