Special First Monday on tap

A couple of special events will highlight this month’s First Monday Trade Days.

First Monday Coordinator Karen King said one of the events is a special ribbon cutting with the Weatherford Chamber of Commerce at noon Friday for the middle parking lot, just north of the First Monday event center.

King says the area has been put “into pristine condition” with parks and rec workers installing some picnic tables and trees to make the area more attractive not only for the Trade Days at Heritage Park, but for special events, which the city wants to begin attracting to the park.

King herself will be giving tours from 11 a.m. to noon around the parking lot and surrounding area. As a part of the ribbon cutting, King says First Monday committee members will be recognized with a special bench with their names on it for all the work they have done in the continued renovation of the grounds area and the park itself.

The annual Blooming Car Show, scheduled for May 10, has told city officials it will be bringing in nearly double the cars of a year ago, King said.

A free concert of local country artists is also scheduled Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the area around the event center building. A tent with about 100 chairs will be set up so people can enjoy the music. Artists Abbey Cone, Rocky Lott, Toni Martin, and Kyle Mathis will be performing and will have swag such as CDs and T-shirts available for purchase.

“We love for people to love their favorite artists, so we encouraged them to bring their items for sale,” King said. “We have these artists confirmed but there may be another one or two who perform as well.”
