Poolville JH math, science team has strong showing at Azle competition

— POOLVILLE – The Poolville Junior High School Math and Science Team competed in Azle on Nov. 9.

Thirteen students competed against 46 other competitors. A total of eight other schools attended the competition. Most of the PJHS students placed in the top 20 at the competition, with three first-place medals awarded.

“Several of our members have joined us just this year,” said Susan Garmon, one of the team’s coaches. “We are proud of how well they did and how well the whole team worked.”

The team’s results were:

Team – third in Calculator.


Eighth grade: Dawson Harris placed 14th in Science; Christopher Tunnell placed 18th in Calculator and ninth in Number Sense.

Seventh grade: Madelyn Gilmore placed 19th in Number Sense; Sarah Kelly placed 13th in Number Sense and 13th in Calculator; Logan Spikes placed 13th in Number Sense and eighth in Calculator; and Tyler Tunnell placed sixth in Calculator.

Sixth grade: Elijah Batchelor placed 19th in Number Sense.

Fifth grade: Emily Booth tied for fourth in Number Sense; 12th in Calculator; 11th in Mathematics and seventh in Science; Megan Burnett tied for fourth in Number Sense and placed fourth in Calculator, third in Mathematics and fourth in Science; Brooklyn Hensley placed eighth in Number Sense, third in Calculator, ninth in Mathematics and third in Science; Evan Lang placed seventh in Number Sense, 10th in Calculator, seventh in Mathematics and fifth in Science; Dalton Sprague placed second in Number Sense, 14th in Calculator, first in Mathematics and sixth in Science; and Wyatt Thomas placed first in Number Sense, first in Calculator, sixth in Mathematics and eighth in Science.

The team competed Saturday at Forte Junior High School in Azle.
