VETERANS’ CORNER: Meanings to the folding of a flag

(Continued)

After the 12th fold the flag is completely folded and tucked in, with the stars uppermost reminding us of our nation’s motto, “In God We Trust.” Once folded properly the flag takes an appearance of a cocked hat, reminding us of the soldiers who served under Gen. George Washington and the sailors and marines who served under Capt. John Paul Jones.

For additional information and the 12 symbols listed for the folding of the U.S. flag, go to snopes.com and wikipedia.com. Have a Happy Easter and speak to you again next week.

Jim Vines is commander of AmVets Post 133.
