The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service in Parker County is offering several community and life skills classes and programs in the coming weeks. Information on those follows:
Scream-free parenting classes
Parenting classes will be offered by Texas A&M Agrilife Extension Service on June 4-5 from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Parker County Agricultural Service Center. Speakers will include Jim Morrow, Johnnie Kelly and Kathy Smith.
The class will be based on the curriculum “Scream-free Parenting: The Revolutionary Approach to Raising Your Kids by Keep Your Cool.”
The lessons will focus on how to become the parent your kids need and about keeping your cool. Also the class will cover Keeping Kids Healthy through Healthy Eating, Keeping Kids Safe and Food Safety and Shopping Strategies for Feeding Your Children and Family. The cost to attend the class is $10 for both days. This will include handouts and lunch. To register call 817-598-6168.
Food preservation workshops
Texas AgriLife Extension of Parker County will host two food preservation workshops this summer.
Basic Food Preservation and Making Jams and Jellies will be held Friday, June 21. The class will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and costs $20. Registration will include recipes, canning supplies for the workshop and handouts. Participants should bring a sack lunch. The workshop will be held at the Parker County Agricultural Service Center located at 604 N. Main St. in Weatherford.
The workshop will be helpful for beginners and those who need a refresher course in food preservation. Participants will learn how to safely can foods. They will also have the opportunity to can vegetables and make jelly.
Participants who have pressure canners or water bath canners are asked to bring their canners in case they are needed for the workshop. Canner gauge testing will be available for those who need theirs tested as well.

Making Salsas and Drying Fruits, Vegetables and Herbs is Thursday, July 18. The class will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and costs $20. The registration will include recipes, canning supplies, ingredients and handouts.
Participants should bring a sack lunch. The workshop will be held at the Parker County Agricultural Service Center that is located at 604 N. Main St. in Weatherford.
The workshop will cover the basics of making salsas and the principles of drying/dehydrating foods.
They will also have the opportunity to make several kinds of salsas and practice dehydrating foods.
Participants who have water bath canners and/or dehydrators are asked to bring them in case they are needed for the workshop.

Food managers certification training and exam
Texas AgriLife Extension Service of Parker County will offer a one-day food manager certification training course, “Food Safety: It’s Our Business,” for food service managers on Tuesday, June 18.
The training will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, with the examination being conducted at 5 p.m. The course will take place the Parker County Agricultural Services Center, located at 604 N. Main St., in Weatherford.
The course fee is $115 and includes training, course book, handouts and materials and the National Restaurant ServSafe Certified Professional Food Manager examination. The course book and can be picked up one week prior to the training from the extension office. The deadline to register is June 10.
The program is designed not only to prepare food service managers to pass the certification examination, but will provide valuable education regarding the safe handling of food. Special attention to food safety will help keep the many customers served safe and satisfied.

Safe sitter course
Texas AgriLife Extension will offer a safe sitter course Monday, June 17, at the Parker County Agricultural Service Center in Weatherford from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Safe Sitter is a medically accurate program that teaches boys and girls ages 11 to 16 how to handle emergencies when caring for children. The class teaches safe and nutrition child care techniques, behavior management skills and appropriate responses to medical emergencies.
The cost of the program is $35 that will cover workbook and lunch. To register for safe sitter, call the Parker County Extension office at 817-598-6168.
