Cycle wreck kills Azle-area man

By CHRISTIN COYNE

An Azle-area man died Sunday afternoon when he was ejected from the motorcycle he was riding on Azle Highway.

John Laver, 57, was pronounced dead shortly before 1 p.m. at the intersection of FM 730 and Veal Station.

A 2005 Harley was “traveling north on FM Road 730 when, for unknown reasons, the motorcycle crossed into the southbound lanes of FM 730, crossed Veal Station Road and struck a concrete drainage ditch,” Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Lonny Haschel said.

Laver was not wearing a helmet, Haschel said.

His death was ruled an accident and was caused by blunt force trauma of the head and chest due to motorcycle-fixed object collision, according to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The crash was under investigation Tuesday, Haschel said.
