McKinney artist to display at PlainsCapital

By SALLY SEXTON

Elaine Adams has never lived in Weatherford, but the McKinney resident spent plenty of holiday and vacation time visiting relatives in Weatherford and Parker County.

Her trips, as well as her passion for painting, have brought her full circle, as she will display her artwork at the Weatherford PlainsCapital Bank starting today.

“I’ve been painting most of my life and I’m now 80 years old,” Adams said. “I think I’m getting better at it.”

Inspired by photographs she took herself of family homes and historic buildings, Adams has put together a collection of 20 Weatherford buildings painted in water colors for the show. She will also be showing a portrait oil painting of her mother, Lenita Fay Walker Keith, when she graduated from Weatherford High School.

“Most of the pictures are going to be houses,” Adams said. “One is of what I call the Flemming House, where my cousin’s parents lived. Another is the Campbell House on Rentz Street, where my uncle, John Campbell, lived.

“I definitely wanted to do those two for sure and the rest are just really interesting houses.”

Adams’ art will be open to the public Sept. 13 through Sept. 30 during regular bank business hours. Adams will also be available to meet and take pictures opening day.

“I’m excited to be able to do my first show in Weatherford,” she said.

Paintings will be available for purchase and Adams said she will also be accessible to do commissions for houses or portraits.

Adams will also be hosting another show in December at the Weatherford Public Library in conjunction with the Parker County Heritage Society’s Tour of Homes.
