— The Ed Kramer Veterans Flag Plaza with its stunning display of the U.S. and Texas flags surrounded by others representing the five military branches will be the appropriate location for Weatherford College’s observance of Veterans Day on Monday, Nov. 11.

Organizers have planned a fitting tribute to the men and women in the Armed Forces. The ceremony begins at 10:30 a.m. just outside WC’s Academic Building at the flag plaza.

The ceremony will start with music by the WC Howlin’ Brass band. WC President Dr. Kevin Eaton and WC Board of Trustees Chair Frank Martin, veterans themselves, will offer welcoming remarks and recognitions.

The college choir, led by Rob Laney, will lead the attendees in the singing of the National Anthem, and a solo performance by Doug Jefferson, WC executive director of student life, who will sing “America the Beautiful,” will highlight the morning’s ceremony. Brent Baker, WC vice president of institutional advancement, will lead the Pledge of Allegiance.

Representatives of the Army, Navy, Coast Guard, Air Force and Marines will post the military flags as a medley of the branches’ signature themes will be played.

“Altogether, truly a fitting tribute for our men and women who have and are serving our country in one of our military forces,” said Ralph Willingham, director of admissions and VA Affairs. “We invite the entire community to come out and enjoy the ceremony with us.”
