Tornado alerts? There’s an app for that

Runnels recommended the purchase of a portable NOAA weather radio. “Not only do you get your forecast, but also whenever it issues a watch or warning it will alert you,” he said.

The Red Cross’ Tornado App, along with the others, are available in the online Apple Store, Google’s Play Store for Android or by visiting www.redcross.org/mobileapps.

The National Weather Service offers a comprehensive list of free email and messaging alert services, as well as a few that have fees attached, at www.weather.gov/subscribe.
