W’ford police put donated TRAXPro System to use

The Weatherford Police Department is putting the latest donation from Weatherford Citizen’s Police Academy Alumni Association to good use.

In May 2013, the WCPAAA donated a TraxPro Traffic Analysis System, valued at $5,000. The TraxPro System is a piece of equipment that allows the Weatherford Police Department to process and analyze traffic data.

The system is mobile and can be installed at just about any location in the city. It then monitors the traffic in that area, producing data that tells if the area has a “high,” “medium” or “low” enforcement rating; gives the best times for enforcement; and breaks down the volume of vehicles by speed amongst other informative reports. By utilizing this system, officers can concentrate on specific areas where traffic enforcement is needed which can prevent the dangers of motor vehicle accidents.

“We would like to express our deepest gratitude to the WCPAAA for this generous donation,” stated Lt. Ronnie Villarreal – supervisor over WPD’s traffic unit. “This association is one of the hardest working most dedicated group of people we have assisting us and we can’t thank them enough for all the time, effort and donations they make to our officers each year.”

Chris Hummel, WCPAAA president and owner of Weatherford Battery and Electric, said the money they used to purchase the TraxPro System was raised during a February fundraiser.

“Our mission is to help alleviate part of the cost of much-needed equipment for the officers,” stated Hummel.

The WCPAAA is made up of business owners and residents of the community who have gone through the Weatherford Citizen’s Police Academy.

Anyone interested in participating in this academy can contact Sgt. Dennis Whitford or Alecia Durham of the Weatherford Police Department at (817) 598-4310.
