Letter to the Editor: Selective sequestration

Selective sequestration

Dear Editor,

Have you noticed that sequestration is very selective? What am I missing? We can’t afford to give White House tours, we furlough air traffic controllers, and a whole list of necessary personnel.

There seems to be plenty of money for GSA conferences and IRS training sessions. They learn how to make “Star Trek” spoof movies and how to line dance, and who knows what else. It was estimated that it cost the tax payers $3.2 million or it could be close to $5 million, they didn’t keep records. Would you like to tell the IRS that you made $10 thousand, or it could have been $10 million? You just didn’t bother to keep records.

Did it ever occur to the powers that be that it is not necessary to spend more this year than you spent last year. I was self-employed for about 40 years, and I can tell you that my income varied substantially. There were times that I had to borrow money from the bank to buy groceries and, at times, just pay the interest on equipment notes, due to weather conditions. It seems that some think money appears out of thin air. It’s like depositing $10 and getting a new checkbook and thinking as long as you have checks, you have money.

Lois Lerner makes $185,000 and refused to answer questions about the IRS targeting conservative organizations. The IRS employees are slated to receive $70 million in bonuses – somehow that seems a tad greedy when the country is bankrupt. It never ceases to amaze me, that some people don’t have enough sense to realize that when the country defaults on its obligations that there will be hell to pay and they will be included. Inflation is now eating your life savings, and when the good folks in Washington keeping helping you, you will have Obama phones that only cost tax payers $2 billion per year.

I realize that the phone was not President Obama’s idea but he expanded the program when it should have been curtailed. The president uses Air Force One like it is a radio-controlled model. It only takes $180,000 to operate it per hour. It is estimated that his vacation to Africa will cost between $60 million to $100 million.
