MILLSAP MATTERS: MAP camps for students

(Continued)

With many busier than usual in the summer months, let’s take a minute to see what’s cooking at the cafés around Cool as some may need a quick meal out. Over at Dee’s Hometown Diner, located on South FM Road 113, one of the most popular items right now is the salad with grilled or fried chicken. For dessert Dee says the sugar-free pineapple pecan pie is highly recommended. If you need a pie for an event let her know at least 24 hours ahead of time and she’ll bake you one, with the most popular being chocolate and coconut. The diner is open Monday-Sunday, with modified hours and not in the evenings. To place an order, call 940-682-4600.

Over at the Blue Windmill, located on U.S. 180 north of the Cool blinking lights, owner Billie Holley says some of the most popular dishes are the chicken-fried steak and fish. The café has a great breakfast menu with many choices. Billie wants everyone to know that she prepares all of the food from home-cooking methods, so while it may take a little longer to get your food, it is worth the wait. This chef also will meet special dietary needs as much as possible. Everyone is welcome, and Billie extends a special welcome to young people and the elderly. The business is open Tuesday-Saturday, 6 a.m.-6 p.m., but is closed the second Saturday of each month. Mrs. Holley welcomes call-in orders at 682-229-7085. Two great choices for a meal out!

With longer days and some of us having more time for extra activities the Parker County Extension Agency offers some great opportunities. The organization’s mission is to serve Texans through community-based education to the people. The extension brings the resources of the Texas A&M University System to our county. It provides educational programs and technical assistance in areas such as diet and health, youth development and agriculture.
