Cabin fever

City working to get Camp Holland cabins updated, opened for more public use as Heritage improvements, including new dog park, continue

City officials are also continuing improvements to Heritage Park, with the first step of the plan construction of a three-acre dog park with the entrance off the trailhead behind the Weatherford Police Department. Goodman said construction should be complete sometime in June and will have nice features, including areas for both small and large breeds of dogs.

“The great thing about the area is the fact that it’s all shade,” Goodman said. “There will be grass and areas of mulch with benches for people to sit in the area.”

The area, which is along the hike and bike trail, will be well lit and open throughout the day. Goodman said closing the dog park one day a week for upkeep will take place, but he was unsure as to which day it will be.

All animals at the park will require proof their vaccinations are current, as animal control officials will be talking with owners to ensure compliance.

The next phase of the park will include construction of a small amphitheater for concerts, shows and other events. Goodman said a start date on that has not yet been set.
