MILLSAP MATTERS: Millsap boys hoops return to playoffs after long absence

By SHARON HUDSON

MILLSAP – While we continue to embrace the cold temperatures, the enthusiasm of our community and school district is running high with a number of wonderful happenings on the horizon.

Some of the students have great things going on in athletics.

The Bulldog boys basketball team has earned a place in the playoff berths. This marks the first time since the 1971-72 season that they have achieved the right to play in the Texas state playoffs. Coach Josh Jones says it’s an honor to see the team achieve the first of their goals. Plans are to win and collect some gold basketballs and nets. All the way to state!

The elementary students are going to be busy with their 2014 Winter Olympics. In the classrooms the Olympics are being discussed, and each class is representing a country. With Physical Education teacher Michael Humphrey leading the way, gym time will be filled with Olympic events done Millsap-style. A very innovative way to teach the students about these world renown games.

The Millsap Cemetery Association will meet at Millsap City Hall on Sunday, Feb. 9, at 2 p.m. The agenda for the meeting is cemetery clean up and markers, non-profit status of the association, historical marker update, pavilion info update, amendment of bylaws and installation of treasurer. The meeting is open to Millsap residents and family members who have relatives interred in the cemetery. This group is working hard on some wonderful improvements to the cemetery and we applaud their efforts.

Soda Springs Baptist Church will be enjoying a Valentine’s banquet on the evening of Feb. 9. As has become the tradition, Natty Flats Smokehouse will graciously provide the meal. Special guests providing music after the meal is the group Fellowship Road. This trio is comprised of Richard Dickerson, Bob Schmidt and Linda Schmidt.
