Expect delays during Saturday’s ‘Ride for Heroes’ event

By JUDY SHERIDAN

ALEDO – The 11th Annual Moritz Bicycle Ride for Heroes, benefiting the fire departments of Aledo, Hudson Oaks and Willow Park as well as the Parker County Sheriff’s Reserve and the East Parker County Center of Hope, is set for 8:30 a.m. Saturday in Aledo.

The weather forecast is good, said Jo-Alice Davis, vice president of the Ride for Heroes Board, so a good turnout should follow. Last year’s sunny event attracted more than 1,100 cyclists, raising $45,000.

Six routes, ranging from 8 to 75 miles, will start and finish at Aledo High School.

Following are some spots that traffic may back up as public safety officers allow riders the right of way, Ride for Heroes board member Larry Smith said. By noon, there should be no real issues, even though some cyclists will be out until 3 p.m. or 4 p.m. completing the longest routes.

FM 1187

Between 8:30 a.m. and 8:45 a.m., traffic heading southbound on FM 1187 will be held until riders finish emerging from Aledo High School.

FM 5 and Bankhead Highway

Motorists should expect delays on FM 5 at Bankhead Highway from 8:45 a.m. until noon, as cyclists will travel through the intersection at the beginning and end of the ride.

FM 5 and Old Annetta Road

Riders will turn left off FM 5 onto Annetta Road between 8:55 a.m. and 9:30 a.m.

Fort Worth Highway

Cyclists traveling north on Bankhead Highway will cross U.S. 180 anytime between 9:55 a.m. and noon. Motorists will experience some delays at the intersection, but they will be intermittent.

FM 730 and North Lake

Motorists traveling on FM 730 will find some intermittent delays at the North Lake intersection between 10:15 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Ranch House Road and I-20

Motorists may experience some delays at the intersection between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.
