Investigators seek info on fire ruled arson

Residence north of Weatherford burned to ground Tuesday morning

By CHRISTIN COYNE

PARKER COUNTY – Fire investigators are seeking information involving a blaze that destroyed a Parker County home Tuesday and is believed to have been intentionally set.

A two-story, 2,700-square-foot rock home in the 200 block of Crockett Lane north of Weatherford was fully involved when firefighters arrived at the fire late Tuesday morning.

“The fire is definitely incendiary in nature,” Parker County Fire Marshal Shawn Scott said, adding that an arson K9 indicated a flammable substance was used or stored in the garage of the building, where he said the fire appears to have started.

The fire marshal’s office collected samples and sent them to a lab for review, Scott said.

No one was living in the home at the time of the fire and there was no property inside or electricity connected.

The man purchasing the property from his grandparents was reported to be at work at the time of the fire.

Pipeline company workers saw the flames over the tree tops in the secluded neighborhood and called it in, Scott said.

The home was insured for $100,000, though there was at least that amount in monetary damage, according to Scott.

Earlier this month, the homeowner reported to the Parker County Sheriff’s Office that all the windows had been knocked out of the house.

He put up a game camera after the incident to catch whoever was responsible for the vandalism but took it down the day prior to the fire, according to Scott.

Those with information pertaining to the fire are asked to call the Parker County Fire Marshal’s at 817-598-0969.
