MILLSAP MATTERS: Ladies share memories of their weddings

By SHARRON HUDSON

MILLSAP – With kids out of school and warm temperatures arriving many of the usual summer activities around here have begun.

Among these events was the recent family church camp of Midpoint Chapel.

This group, along with folks from Eleventh Avenue Church in Mineral Wells, traveled to Cedar Hills Baptist Youth Camp, located a few miles outside Binger, Okla., for a weekend of Bible teaching, fellowship and fun.

They were joined by members of other church families from the Oklahoma area. After returning from this edifying time the Midpoint group, along with the Eleventh Avenue Church family, is busy making plans for VBS which will be July 29-Aug. 2. Some good ways for people to spend time.

The June meeting of the Millsap Neighborhood Ladies Home and Garden Club had the theme “Weddings,” which was greatly enjoyed by those attending. The ladies celebrated memories of their own weddings and enjoyed sharing pictures of their special days. Hostesses Ruth Barr, Carol Buchanan and Olina Sergeant provided a wedding cake and groom’s cake as a highlight of the day. The ladies will meet for their July 3 meeting at 8:30 a.m. for a special time of visiting senior citizens and shut-ins. New members are always welcome, so just come to the Millsap Community Center and join right in!

We have some well-known area residents who are recovering from surgeries and illnesses. We are happy to report that Mrs. Ester Cox is home from rehab. Mrs. Betty Jones was a recent surgery patient. Mr. James Chipman recently underwent further surgery on an ankle that has given him trouble since a bout with polio in his youth. May each of you be fully well soon!

Those who are customers of Comanche National Bank and use the Millsap branch will need to begin to make plans come October to bank at one of the other branches. Customers recently received a letter that the Millsap facility will close at 5 p.m. on Sept. 30. The reason being that the Millsap branch is less utilized since there is the Cool branch on U.S. Highway 180. This will be a big change for those in our town who are not used to traveling to get to a bank. We have been proud of the bank since interested citizens influenced First National Bank of Santo, which was acquired by Comanche National, to open a branch in our town. We are assured that the Cool Banking Center, located at 9702 Mineral Wells Highway, Weatherford, will continue to provide customers the same friendly service to which they are accustomed, as well as, many products and services.
