Family seeks puppy missing since burglary

By CHRISTIN COYNE

One Parker County family is desperately trying to track down a 4-month-old puppy they say went missing as a result of a burglary of their home.

Ashlee Bridges said she returned home from work around 8 p.m. Thursday to the Agnes-area residence on Shady Hill Lane she shares with her mother and found the house in disarray and many items missing.

Family heirlooms, jewelry, a television, a game system, clothes, flat irons and even food from their freezer were taken, Bridges said. But she said the family’s greatest loss was their young male blue brindle pit bull, Zeus.

Bridges said she’d just made a a new collar tag for him on her way home and had a vet appointment scheduled for him on Friday.

“I’m not even worried about the material things,” Bridges said. “It’s just why would you take my dog?”

It’s likely the friendly canine greeted the intruder or intruders at the door, according to Bridges. The door wasn’t secured well that day but they live in the country and have never had anything stolen in the past, she said.

“They have demolished it,” Bridges said of the damage to their home and possessions. Two chihuahuas in the house remained.

Bridges said the pit bull, which had papers, was purchased at a bazaar at around the age of seven weeks.

Bridges said she doesn’t care about anything else they took, she just wants her dog back. They are offering a reward, she said.

In addition to reporting the burglary with the Parker County Sheriff’s Office, they created flyers with pictures of Zeus and sent them to shelters and veterinarians, as well as distributing the information on Facebook.

When Bridges spoke with the Democrat by phone Friday afternoon, she and her mother were headed to Interstate 30 to check out a possible sighting along the highway.

“It breaks my heart not to know where he is, if he’s being treated OK, if he’s hurting or scared,” Bridges said. “I just don’t know anymore.”

Zeus has white spots on his belly, a blue patch over his right eye and a blue left ear, according to Bridges.
