SPRINGTOWN – A man accused by police of taking thousands of dollars in drugs from a Springtown pharmacy over the weekend has been arrested and charged with burglary.

As police were following up on a lead on the burglary Monday, Jackie Randall Conway, 55, was arrested on a charge of possession of marijuana and subsequently confessed to burglarizing Garrett’s Springtown Drug Store and using a sledgehammer to break in, according to Springtown police.

The owner of the store reported the burglary around 10 a.m. Sunday and stated that numerous bottles of prescription drugs, including hydrocodone, alprazolam, carisprodal, and codeine, had been stolen, along with $520 in cash and a plastic trash can.

Not including the damage to the glass door, the business’ loss was estimated at about $2,700.

After receiving information from Fort Worth police about Conway possibly being involved, Springtown Lt. Curtis Stone reportedly spoke with an Azle man, who said that Conway came to his house Sunday morning with a large number of prescription bottles in a trashcan and left them.

Stone wrote in the probable cause affidavit that they recovered bottles matching the description of reported stolen drugs from a hole outside and in the house along with other items believed to have been stolen and a sledge hammer found in the yard.

In addition to the burglary of a building charge, jail records show Conway was also wanted on three Tarrant County warrants for aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon.
