A Weatherford man who was stopped late Tuesday over vehicle-related violations ended up being Tasered and taken to jail after he reportedly fled a deputy, according to the Parker County Sheriff’s Office.

Joe Edward Castaneda Jr., 23, was arrested and charged with evading arrest or detention after, a deputy says, Castaneda fled on foot from a traffic stop.

Castaneda was pulled over on a motorcycle in the 3100 block of Farm-to-Market Road 51 North shortly before midnight Wednesday because the vehicle license plate and registration were not displayed, according to the sheriff’s office.

Castaneda appeared to be nervous and was reportedly asked to remove his jacket, gloves and backpack.

Asked if he had a weapon on him, according to the sheriff’s office, Castaneda told the deputy he did not but acknowledged there was one in the bag.

As the officer was checking the man’s information, Castaneda reportedly began running, jumped over a fence and was Tasered, according to the sheriff’s office.

Paramedics were called according to policy and Castaneda was taken to the Parker County Jail, where he was released Wednesday on $2,500 bond.
