Aledo Ladycats headed to Austin

ABILENE - Two runs were more than enough for the Aledo Ladycats Saturday as they shut out Frenship 2-0 to win the Class 1-4A region and advance to the state tournament next week in Austin.

“That’s what playoff softball is all about right there,” Aledo coach Jeff Lemons told the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal. “Both teams played their guts out. Both teams had their opportunities. We just caught a couple of breaks and got a couple of runs there.”

Aledo's two runs came in the fourth and sixth innings. Aledo pitcher Lauren Crain went the distance, blanking the Tigers with eight strikeouts.

The Ladycats won the first game of the best-of-three series 5-2 on Friday.
