Cemetery tour features confederate roots

WEATHERFORD — Confederate soldiers and their families will rise from their graves at Old City Greenwood Cemetery for one day to tell their tales as part of the eighth annual Talking Tombstone Tour.

Sponsored by the Parker County Heritage Society, this year’s theme is Small Town Civility, Weatherford, Texas 1861 to 1865.

This year’s Talking Tombstone Tour is Saturday, Oct. 22, with the first tour starting at 1 p.m. and the last at 3 p.m. at Old City Greenwood Cemetery located on Front Street.

Tours take approximately 75 minutes. Tickets are $10 ages 9 and up, $5 for children age 5 to 8. The event is not recommended for small children or those needing walking assistance. Tickets are available only the day of the event at the gate.

Proceeds from the event are dedicated to the preservation and maintenance of the cemetery.
