Local Zontians attend district conference

Thirteen members of the Zonta Club of Parker County recently attended the 66th Annual District 10 Conference in South Padre Island.

During the conference, attended by 125 Zonta members from Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana, the members were updated on International service projects such as their current campaign “Zonta Says No.” Zontians from around the world have joined in this campaign to help eradicate violence against women throughout the world.

The local group participated in business sessions and workshops throughout the weekend. Two members of the club, Donna Couch and Amy Mercer, were elected to district positions for the 2014-16 biennium. Zonta Clubs around the world will also be participating in area meetings next spring in preparation for the international convention in Orlando, Fla., in June when the new district and international officers will be sworn in for their upcoming terms.

Zonta Club of Parker County meets the first Wednesday of each month at 11:30 a.m. at the Alkek Fine Arts Center on the Weatherford College campus. Its mission is to advance the status of women worldwide through service and advocacy.
