Man’s pickup leaves roadway, slams into tree

20-year-old driver flown from scene to area hospital

ANNETTA – An Aledo man was flown by helicopter Tuesday evening from a one-vehicle wreck on Farm-to-Market Road 5 in Annetta.

Garrison Carpenter, 20, was driving northbound on FM 5 near the cemetery when the pickup he was driving left the east side of the roadway and struck a tree, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Firefighters, responding from Hudson Oaks and Aledo volunteer fire departments, responded and extricated Carpenter from vehicle.

He was flown to an area hospital by CareFlite for his injuries.

It was not immediately clear why the vehicle left the roadway, a DPS trooper at the scene said, adding that there were no skid marks and witnesses said he was traveling at the same rate of speed as other traffic on the roadway.
