For more than a decade now, one event has served as a big help for the Careity Foundation in terms of funds and donations.

This year’s 19th annual Careity Celebrity Cutting and Concert is scheduled to take place Friday at 7 p.m. at the Will Rogers Coliseum in Fort Worth.

“Nineteen years is quite a long time and we’ve been very, very successful in years past,” Careity Foundation founder Lyn Walsh said.

Walsh said that more than 3,500 people are expected to attend the event, with sports figures, physicians, performing artists and more trying their hand at cutting. Every dollar raised goes directly toward services provided by the Careity Foundation. Among the celebrity competitors slated are Tanya Tucker, Jay Novacek, Sonny Burgess, Katy Keenie and Will Simpson.

“At the Careity Foundation, we provide services for cancer patients, gas cards so they can get to and from appointments, nutritional supplements, a dietician and chaplain, a psychotherapist and oncology massages and acupuncture that helps with pain from cancer and chemotherapy,” Walsh said. “We also help provide about 1,500 mammograms each year, as well as diagnostics, biopsies and surgeries.”

Walsh said they in keeping with the foundation’s theme, “Careity begins at home, we keep it local,” anyone in the community is encouraged to attend.

Tickets are available for $20 per person, and may be purchased at the Coliseum or online, at www.careity.org. There are also tickets provided by sponsors for those that may not be able to afford the cost.
