After seeing nothing but a vacant building for many months, drivers along South Main Street can now pull into BullChicks, a fast casual restaurant in the former KFC building.
Owners/business partners Marti Reed and Janet Knight had a soft opening for the restaurant in mid-December. Since the employees were also responsible for the set-up of the facility, it made sense to the duo to have a grand opening for employees and their families. The hard grand opening less than two weeks ago went well, Reed said and business has been picking up, primarily by word of mouth so far.
BullChicks started in 2006 and serves burgers, wraps, sandwiches, and wings. Reed and Knight own and operate six locations in North Texas but Weatherford is special in Reed’s mind, as she has lived here for 10 years.
“We’re trying to develop more in Oklahoma and Arkansas as well, but our first store in the area was in Denton and with the growth in the North Texas area, particularly to the west, Weatherford was a perfect choice,” Reed said.
Knight and Reed are passionate about their stores, the former stating if they are not in the stores once a week or more, it’s not a good thing.
“This is a family owned and operated restaurant that is a chain but it’s not like McDonald’s,” Reed said. “We specialize in following up with the customer while they’re eating, making sure they got what they ordered and it’s prepared to their satisfaction. We want to be good at what we do.”
Reed said all the preparation is done as the food is ordered with no heat lamps or microwaves on the premises. All the recipes, sauces and seasonings have been used for years.
