With the New Year upcoming, people have resolutions toward losing weight and getting in better shape and health.
Personal trainer Deanna Wagner has the perfect way to do that, as she will begin offering personal training classes in January at Jeong’s TaeKwonDo Academy, 149 College Park Dr., in Weatherford. Her classes, known as FitSoFun, can help offset getting older.
“Americans, as a whole, are not healthy and health care costs are only going up,” Wagner, who has 20 years experience as a personal trainer, said. “The best thing anyone can do to delay that is to go out and get moving, get some exercise. I don’t want to be a frail old lady and neither does anyone else.”
Wagner began her fitness interest when she was 15 when he mother got her a health club membership. Within a year, she was doing everything the trainers do, so she began teaching aerobics when she was 17. She taught aerobics in five states and the United Kingdom but took a break in 2002 so she could homeschool her children.
Wagner is also a black belt in taekwondo, which she began in 2005. She met Master Jeong at a Fort Worth dojo and was asked if she would be willing to teach fitness classes at his facility. She also assists in teaching taekwondo classes at Jeong’s.
Wagner will be teaching four different types of classes:
•Ballet fit, for those who love ballet and admired a dancer’s physique while learning the basics. Better posture and more fluid movements are just some of the benefits.
• Circuit strength will tone all major muscle groups, including the core. Circuit classes increase muscle mass, which burn fat around the clock, along with increased bone density.
• Move and groove classes are dance inspired with club, Latin and other beats increasing the fun level. Better heart and lung health and fat burning are only some of the benefits.
• Yoga focuses on well-sequenced physical postures. Flexibility and peace of mind are some of the benefits.
All classes will be developed by Wagner who will determine modifications so everyone can work at the intensity that best suits them.
“Some people work better as a group while some folks who may have high blood pressure or smokers generally don’t do well as a group,” Wagner said. “As we age, a host of diseases are coming down the pipe if we don’t stay healthy.”
For those who prefer more of a personal approach, Wagner offers personal training classes on an in-home basis. However people want to get fit, Wagner is willing to help.
“I’m certified by the American College of Sports Medicine, which is the gold standard for fitness trainers,” Wagner said. “I’m passionate about fitness, not only because I care about me, but I care about my family as well. I want fitness and exercise to be fun because it should be.”
