NorTex Auto Works

Founded by two guys that love cars and old-fashioned customer service, NorTex Auto Works has opened its doors in Parker County near the line of Weatherford and Hudson Oaks. Between the creative vision of Dave Madonna and the mechanical expertise of Barry Metzing, the duo are out to help locals with all their automobile needs, from complete transmission rebuilds to electrical work.

“[Cars] are a passion,” Madonna said of his and Metzing’s reason for opening. But beyond car enthusiasts are also people who see cars as simply commodities, he said, which is why they began their new venture with two things in mind: to offer “one-year, 12,000 mile warranties on all jobs and an $85 an hour labor rate.”

“We are just like [customers],” Madonna said. “The only difference is we run the shop. We want to treat customers the way we want to be treated.”

Metzing, who is also the shop’s master technician, has a multitude of certifications, he said, from ATRA, ATSG and Brookstone College. Under his guidance, the shop offers the following services:

• New/performance transmission rebuilds

• Diesel repair/performance

• Suspension

• Engine builds

• Gear/axle builds

• A/C

• Brakes

• Clutches

• Alternators

• Electrical

“If you can name it on a car besides paint and body, we do it,” Metzing said.

Metzing has been working on cars for more than 24 years, beginning at 8 years of age. His father owned a transmission business, where Metzing was invited to learn the trade.

“I’ve been building transmissions since I was 10,” he said.

Madonna has been a car enthusiast for much of his life, he said. Even during high school, no amount of customization was too big for him to undertake, he added.

“I’m the guy since high school that, you tell me I can’t do something to a car, I am going to prove you wrong. They didn’t all turn out great, I’m not gonna lie,” Madonna said with a laugh.

From modifying a Honda civic into a convertible nearly a decade ago to undertaking one of his latest projects converting a Toyota Tundra into a dually, Madonna loves to push the limits of customization, he said.

“When you see me going down the road, I want you to think that Toyota actually built a dually,” Madonna said.

He said while doing high-end, custom jobs is something he enjoys, it’s not something he sees his shop undertaking for a while.

The duo’s friendship began more than a decade ago when Madonna brought his car to Metzing for a transmission repair. Madonna remained a faithful customer to Metzing, bringing all of his repair work to him. After Madonna left the oil field, Metzing knew that the two needed to pair up and start an auto repair shop. Nearly a month ago, NorTex opened its doors for business.

The shop is located at 2850 Gardner Road, Hudson Oaks, 76087. For more information about NorTex, call 817-594-7373 or email
