Cook Children's

Cook Children's Walsh Ranch celebrated its opening with a ceremony and ribbon cutting Saturday morning at the new facility, which is south of Interstate 30 across from the Walsh Ranch subdivision.

The new Cook Children’s Walsh Ranch held an official grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony Saturday morning to let officials and the public know they are now open for the care of children in the area.

“For more than 100 years, Cook Children’s has been living on its promise to improve the health of every child that we are privileged to care for. Because we believe every child’s life is sacred, we have been caring for an ever-growing number of children from this part of the Metroplex,” President of Cook Children’s Physicians Network Dr. Britt Nelson said. “It became very clear to us that we needed additional access points to that care. Thanks to the Walsh family's and foundation’s generous donation of this beautiful land, we can offer children and families in this area additional access to Cook Children’s primary care. The pediatric urgent care center — staffed with board-certified pediatricians and pediatric advanced practice providers — and the pediatric orthopedics and sports medicine working with a rehab therapist, started seeing patients [last] week and it’s been a great success for us.”

The 40,000-square-foot facility features primary and urgent care offices as well as an orthopedics and sports medicine specialty clinic and a rehabilitation gym.

“We have the most sincerest gratitude for the generosity of the Walsh family and the Walsh Foundation. Without their leadership, their partnership and their generosity, we wouldn’t be here today,” Cook Children’s Board Chairman Jerry Conaster said. “All of these families and partnerships are critical to Cook Children’s so we can complete our promise, which is to bring world-class pediatric healthcare out into the community when you need it and especially where you need it. We’re getting people from everywhere, even as far as Abilene, talking about being able to stop here for their pediatric care.”

The new facility is on an eight-acre site south of Interstate 30, across from the Walsh neighborhood, and is accessible from the Walsh Ranch Parkway exit on the I-30 access road.

“One year and one month ago is when we started this construction project, so it’s amazing, and congratulations to all involved,” Howard Walsh, III, said. “On behalf of my family, I would like to welcome you on what’s been a much-anticipated opening of Cook Children’s at Walsh to include urgent and primary care center as well as orthopedic and sports medicine program. Our family’s commitment goes back generations, as children’s healthcare and support has always been a top priority. We recognize that our continued support for Cook Children’s Medical Center is essential to our future generation’s health and well-being.”

The orthopedic and sports medicine clinic will offer access to a fully-integrated pediatric and adolescent sports care system. Same-day appointments will be available to evaluate injuries and receive treatment and X-rays, casting, orthotics, physical therapy and return-to-sport testing will be provided Monday through Friday.

“I will tell you having been with this organization for the last 12 years, you will not find a more dedicated and committed board than what we have at Cook Children’s. We are so grateful for their dedication and continued commitment and this is one of the main reasons we are here today,” President and CEO of Cook Children’s Healthcare System Rick Merrill said. “With our urgent care locations currently seeing as many as 400 patients a day, we believe the Walsh Ranch facility will help ease the high urgent care volumes while increasing pediatric care services in this high-growth area.”
