Zonta Club of Parker (EPC) County will join Zonta International in promoting the 16 Days of Activism from Nov. 25 to Dec. 10, a campaign developed with Zonta International (ZI) and its partnership with the United Nations and the Secretary-General’s UNITE to End Violence against Women campaign. The Zonta Club of Parker County is promoting the campaign with “Zonta Says NO” banners around the courthouse and in front of the city annex.

Weatherford Mayor Craig Swancy recently presented Zonta of Parker County with a proclamation declaring Nov. 22 as Zonta of Parker County Day, recognizing the club’s efforts in charity work locally and internationally. Projects and programs include Meals on Wheels, Freedom House, Center of Hope, CrossRoads Ministries, UNICEF, Salvation Army Red Kettle Program and many others.

“Each year, ZPC presents scholarships to Parker County deserving students and invests in the future of women and girls. Empowering women to reach their full potential and strive for gender equality,” said Tanya Hodges, Zonta of Parker County President. “ZI sponsors an Amelia Earhart Fellowship of $10,000, awarded annually to 35 talented women, pursuing Ph.D./doctoral degrees in aerospace-related sciences or aerospace-related engineering around the globe,” Tanya added.

On Jan. 18, ZPC will hold the Annual Amelia Earhart Luncheon. The luncheon is created to help raise scholarship funds and awareness of education, especially in the science, technology, engineering and mathematical fields. This year’s luncheon will feature  lunch prepared by Chef Joel Rhodes, raffles, door prizes and an Amelia Earhart monologue by Kay Huse. The community is invited to join in the festivities and learn about Zonta’s early beginnings when Amelia was a member of Zonta. Register for the event on the website.

Membership in Zonta of Parker County is open to women in the area with a desire for gender equality and eradicating violence against women and girls. ZPC meets the first Wednesday of each month at North Side Baptist Church, 910 N Main St, Weatherford at 11:30 a.m. Register as a guest on the Zonta website for the monthly luncheon or the Amelia Earhart Luncheon: www.zontaparkercounty.org.
