The Aledo Children’s AdvoCats will host Run, Walk or Crawl for our Kids, a 5-kilometer race to benefit disadvantaged children in the Aledo community.

The race will be held Saturday, April 29. Activities are scheduled to began at 8 a.m. with a Kiddie K Fun Run. The Kiddie K will be led by Aledo High School’s Bearcat mascot, and will cover a distance of about one kilometer. The course for the kiddie race will be around the Aledo Middle School in order to keep the children away from the highway and other roadways.

The 5k will begin at 8:30 a.m. at Bearcat Stadium. The race will wind through the downtown district of Aledo and ending with a final lap around the Bearcat Stadium track, with the finish line in front of the grand stands.

After the race the AdvoCats plan to have free community activities for families to take part in.

The event will be supported by Luke’s Locker of Fort Worth.

In a press release, Aledo resident Andy Lucas said that Luke’s Locker was pleased to be a part of the event.

“Luke’s Locker is excited to be supporting the Aledo Children’s AdvoCats and its 5k fundraiser,” Lucas said. “We look forward to helping bring quality and fun to this outstanding community event and effort.”

Ann Simmons, AdvoCat member and event chair, said she is looking forward to the event as well, and emphasized the Aledo community is the main focus of the event.

“We want Aledo families to come out and enjoy,” Simmons said. “This event is all about the community.”

Simmons said sponsorship for the race has been overwhelming, and she is delighted to have such intense community involvement.

“I’m absolutely thrilled,” Simmons said. “The event will be huge — bigger than we anticipated.”

The 5k is open to male and female runners. All participants will receive a goody bag and race T-shirt.

The Kiddie Fun Run is for children 10 and under. All participates will receive a ribbon.

Race registration is available on-line at www.active.com. Early bird registration for the 5k is $15 and will be open until April 17. Registration fees will go up to $18 after that date. Online registration will close on April 28. Registration at the race itself will be $25. The Kiddie K Fun Run will be $10.
