Benbrook woman indicted for truck, firearm theft

Brittoney Ray

A Parker County grand jury indicted Brittoney Michelle Ray, 24, of Benbrook for theft of property, more than $30,000 and theft of a firearm.

On June 10, Hudson Oaks officers were dispatched to Walmart about a stolen truck, according to the arrest warrant affidavit. The complainant informed officers that he had a firearm in the vehicle along with other law enforcement related attire.

“Officers reviewed video footage from the parking lot and were able to see two subjects enter into the complainant’s vehicle and drive out of the parking lot. [An officer] met with Walmart staff to obtain video footage of the incident and was informed that the female subject that had gotten into the driver seat of the vehicle prior to it being driven off the parking lot had made a Western Union transaction inside the store where she provided identification. The female was identified as Brittoney Ray, by name only,” according to the affidavit. “[The officer] traveled to Benbrook and did not locate the vehicle; however, while in Benbrook, received information that some of the victim’s belongings were left in a Super 8 Hotel room located in Fort Worth.”

Ray was not located at the hotel and the officer drove around in an attempt to find the vehicle, which was then spotted at a gas station on Camp Bowie Boulevard, according to the affidavit.

“The passenger male subject exited the vehicle and began walking away from the vehicle, at which time [the officer] took him into custody. Ray observed [the officer] detaining the male and fled on foot,” according to the affidavit. “The firearm which was reported to being inside the vehicle when it was stolen was not recovered and is still outstanding.”

Ray was eventually arrested and booked into the Parker County Jail on June 13 on a combined bond of $30,000 and bonded out on June 17.

“Ms. Ray is indicted for a third degree felony theft and a state jail felony theft of a firearm. If convicted of the third degree felony theft offense, she will face a sentence of two to 10 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine,” Assistant District Attorney Jeff Swain said. “If convicted of theft of a firearm, her punishment would be six months to two years in a state jail facility and a fine of up to $10,000.”
