An abandoned Weatherford house was completely gutted and destroyed by fire Sunday afternoon.

The Weatherford Fire Department responded to a house fire call at 807 W. Columbia Street around 2 p.m., Weatherford Fire Marshal Bob Hopkins said.

“It was fully involved when we got there, a complete loss,” he said.

Hopkins said that witnesses reported seeing teenagers running from the home.

“We’re investigating it as a suspicious fire, and any information from the public would be greatly appreciated,” he said.

Anyone with information can contact the fire marshal’s office at 817-598-4287 or the Weatherford Police Department at 817-598-4310.

Hopkins said a homeless woman had reportedly lived in the home last summer, but no one else had occupied it since.

“Initially, there were some concerns of someone inside the house, but there was nobody in there,” he said. “There were no injuries, no one was hurt or killed.”
