Man indicted for felony sex crimes against a child

Calvin Graves

A Parker County grand jury indicted Calvin Wilson Graves, 64, of Springtown, on Nov. 7 for continuous sexual abuse of a young child and aggravated sexual assault of a child.

On Aug. 15, the Springtown Police Department took a report of sexual abuse of a child after the victim made an outcry that Graves touched her inappropriately.

The child went to the Children’s Advocacy Center of Parker County on Aug. 16 for a forensic interview where she described multiple incidents — the first occurring in July of 2013 — in which Graves had touched her in a sexual manner at his home in Springtown.

“Mr. Graves’ indictment charges two felony offenses. The continuous sexual abuse of a young child count is a first degree felony punishable by 25 to 99 years or life in prison. The aggravated sexual assault of a child count is also a first degree felony, but is punishable by five to 99 years or life in prison and up to a $10,000 fine,” Assistant District Attorney Jeff Swain said. “Mr. Graves’ case was assigned to the 415th District Court, Judge Graham Quisenberry presiding. He is scheduled for arraignment on Dec. 4, but his attorney filed a waiver of arraignment, which means that hearing will not take place. Waivers of arraignment are a standard filing that tells the judge that, rather than the court doing so, Mr. Graves’ attorney will make sure that his client understands his rights. It’s a good courtroom efficiency tool for judges because it frees them up to handle other cases when their admonishments really are not necessary. After a couple of preliminary court settings, this case should reach our trial docket on March 30, 2020.”

Graves was arrested on Aug. 23 and is being held in the Parker County Jail on a $50,000 bond.
